The case against
Russell can invent a premise like nobody else working and end a story like almost anybody. Several of these, the seagull army, the presidents reborn as horses, open as marvels and close as shrugs. Concept does the heavy lifting throughout, and when concept is all a story has, thirty pages begins to feel like forty.
