The case against

Zelazny opens in the middle, flashes back for five chapters without warning, and the basic sequence of events stays scrambled until a second pass. Hindu and Buddhist theology gets worn as costume jewelry over a standard SF power struggle, the women are decorative, and one entire chapter exists to set up a single groaning pun.
