Cusk's method of describing herself only through interactions with others invented a new mode of autofiction.

By volume three the trick is visible from space: strangers corner Faye and deliver flawless ten-page monologues in identical Cuskian prose, because everyone in this trilogy talks like Rachel Cusk. The setting is a literary festival, so writers interview writers about writing. If Outline thrilled you, Kudos is the same machine running a third time, quieter and more self-regarding.
